The Barbareño Chumash Council is a dedicated organization committed to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage, traditions, and rights of the Barbareño Chumash people. Rooted in the rich history of Southern California’s indigenous communities, our Council serves as a guardian of the ancestral legacy and a voice for the community in contemporary society.

Our History

Founded by members of the Barbareño Chumash community, the Council has worked tirelessly to overcome the challenges brought by centuries of colonization and cultural disruption. Through collaborative efforts, we have established programs that support language revitalization, traditional ceremonies, environmental stewardship, and more.
